MRATC HIKES:
Friday, March 27: We'll hike around Watauga Lake north on the Appalachian Trail, starting at Shook Branch Recreation Area on U. S. Highway 321. There is construction on the road to the Trailhead north of Watauga Dam, so we'll do an out and back hike with a maximum distance of 6 miles (shorter hikes can be arranged). Much of the A. T. is near the lakeshore with good views. Meet at Lowe's in Abingdon at 9:00 AM; bring lunch, water, and suitable clothing, and please be prepared to drive. Due to spring activity at Lowes, meet and park at the far right side of the parking lot (as you're facing the building) near the commercial pick up area.. Please contact hike leader Joe DeLoach, deloachjoe@gmail.com or 423-416-1739, by the day before the hike to sign up or for more information.

Attached photo shows participants in hike Friday, 3/20, at Brushy Mtn. near Groseclose, led by Neva Johnson. Another photo shows a tree providing homes for several birds or small animals, taken by Mary Gale.

Tues., March 24: Hike at Alleghany Access New River State Park. Explore 5 miles of trail at this little known gem. The hike includes river walks, high cliff views, and a picnic lunch. We will meet up at the park at 10 AM. Let hike leader Carol Broderson, who will send directions to the park, know you are coming by emailing mtrogersatc@gmail.com
MRATC Meeting Mon. eve. March 30, 7 p.m. Zoom only. (Rescheduled from March 2nd.)
Topic: Member engagement and Leadership succession. Are we informing and involving our new members sufficiently in club activities? Are our club leaders offering opportunities for others to take roles in club tasks and projects? Are there ways we can improve? Come with your comments and ideas.
