MRATC Activities and Information, Week - May 10-16, 2026

MRATC TRAIL WORK:

No group trail work this week.

 

Upcoming:  Damascus Trail Days SAWS Volunteer trail work Event   

May 17, 2026, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

 

Brushing and tree removal on the Grassy Branch Trail, Lewis Fork Wilderness, Mount Rogers National Recreation Area, George Washington and Jefferson National Forest.

 

We will meet at the entrance to Grindstone Campground entrance, 1946 Laurel Valley Road, Troutdale, VA 24378. Volunteers will be provided all essential PPE (helmets, gloves, and eye protection) as well as brushing tools and crosscuts. Everyone will be required to bring a packed lunch and appropriate footwear (ideally hiking shoes).

MRATC HIKES:

No Friday hike this week. Instead, visit the Trail Days festival Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Good programs and music! The digital copy of the Trail Days festival guide is online here. Stop in at MRATC’s booth outside the Trail Center and chat with visitors and club members staffing the booth – and march in the Parade with the club’s banner Saturday at 2 p.m.

DAMASCUS APPALACHIAN TRAIL DAYS FESTIVAL, MAY 15-17.

Thanks to all club members who signed up for shifts to over our booth!

Club members are welcome to march in the parade. Pick up our club’s banner in the back corner of the Trail Center Garage and form up across from Sundog Outfitter’s between 1:30 and 2 p.m. Saturday.


KONNAROCK CREW:  The Crew is working on a trail relocation near Rhododendron Gap, May 6-11 and 14-18.
