MRATC TRAIL WORK: MRATC HIKES: Friday Hike May 29th - AT Hike Glade Mountain - Join us for this hike up Glade Mountain from the Settlers Museum. There may be some early rhododendrons blooming on the way up the mountain. There are some good views from the mountain westward towards Walker Mountain. MRATC TRAIL WORK: CAMPFIRE BAN: The Forest Service has issued a campfire ban for the AT between Rte. 601 (Beech Mtn. Rd.) and Massie Gap, about 12 miles. The ban will be in effect until further notice to protect this sensitive area. It is not just a temporary seasonal ban due to drought and downed trees. See attached poster and map. Campfire ban: The Forest Service has issued a campfire ban for the Mt. Rogers High Country from Beech Mtn. Rd. (Rte. 601) to Massie Gap in Grayson Highlands State Park. This is a permanent ban to protect sensitive resources, not a temporary seasonal restriction. TRAIL WORK: MRATC HIKES: Friday May 22: Cross Mountain to Double Springs Shelter and on to Rte. 421 for an approx. 6.5 mile hike.
