MRATC Activities and Information, Week April 26- May 2, 2026

MRATC TRAIL WORK:

On Wed April 29th we will work on various issues between Dickey Gap and Slabtown Road, including one of the few remaining partially filled root ball holes left from Helene. The exact plan and meeting place will depend on the group size but the meeting time will be 10am.

MRATC HIKES:


Wednesday April 29   – Hike from White Rock area to Panther Lick in the Clinch Mountain WMA for an incredible show of wildflowers including fringed phacelia and blue eyed Mary, along with fine vistas.  Meet at Hayter's Gap Public Library at 9:30 AM. With appropriate car-spotting, this is a 5 mile one way hike with some altitude change. We will be trekking over meadows with some deadfall present, so poles are advised. Bring lunch and rain gear if rain is predicted.  Leader Jim Warden.  Email mtrogersatc@gmail.com  if you wish to join the hike. 


May 1, Friday hike will be at Hungry Mother State Park on Clyburn Ridge Loop Trail. It is a 4 mile hike.  The trailhead is across from Camp Burson and has an amazing view of Hungry Mother Lake where we stop to have lunch.  We will meet at Lowe’s in Abingdon at 9 am or those who want to meet us there be at the trailhead across the road from Camp Burson at 9:45 am.  Bring water, lunch, and rain gear if needed. If it’s raining Friday morning, check your email for cancellation.  Let me know if you plan to hike (nevajohnson9@gmail.com).


Sat. May 2: Backbone Rock to Damascus. Meet at 9 am at Damascus Town Park to carpool to Backbone Rock. Hike uphill about 2 miles to join the AT, then hike mostly downhill about 5 miles back to Damascus. We will have cars on both ends. Be sure to RSVP mtrogersatc@gmail.com to confirm and receive updates. Hike leader: Donna Barkley.
