TRAIL WORK:
Wed., Aug. 26. This trail work day plan might be in a location close to a Virginia Creeper Trail reconstruction area and is awaiting approval from the USFS. If approval not received in time, trail work will be performed at another location. To get on the list to be notified of the final trail work plan for Wed., Aug. 26, respond to this event posting.
MRATC HIKES:
Fri., Aug. 28:
Join us for this point-to-point hike from Dickey Gap to the Fox Creek AT parking lot on Rte. 603. This is a 6.7 mile hike. You will see the hard work by the Konnarock crew on improving the steps to the waterfall. We'll start at Dickey G ap and take the AT southbound to Comer's Creek Falls. We'll continue up to the Iron Mt. Trail and proceed along the ridge line for about 3 miles to the AT intersection. We'll take the AT down to the Fox Creek parking lot. The shorter hike option is an out and back from Dickey Gap to Comer's Creek Falls for a total hike of 2.6 miles. In your response, please indicate which hike you plan to do. Hike leader is Steve Mason.
Bring lunch, water, rain gear and hiking poles.
Meet up locations are Abingdon Lowe's @ 9AM, Damascus Caboose @ 9:15 and Fox Creek AT Parking lot @9:50AM. A separate car pool will be set up for the shorter hike to go directly to Dickey's Gap @ 10AM.

WHITETOP MTN. CAMPFIRES: The Mt. Rogers NRA is asking for the club’s help in locating reported fire rings on Whitetop Mtn. and removing them. Whitetop is in the campfire restriction area established by the USFS (Beech Mtn. Rd. to Massie Gap).
Anyone hiking on Whitetop: please look for evidence and clean it up.
