MRATC HIKES:
Friday May 22: Cross Mountain to Double Springs Shelter and on to Rte. 421 for an approx. 6.5 mile hike. This hike starts with a beautiful view of Shady Valley at approx. 0.8 miles in. There is a gradual uphill to Double Springs Shelter where we will have lunch at the 3 mile point. Along the way we will see many wildflowers including pink lady slippers, bellwort, painted trillium, white clintonia and mayapple. As we descend from the shelter we may see the flaming azaleas. This hike will require a shuttle TBD once we have a headcount. Please meet at 9AM at Lowe’s in Abingdon (construction side), or the caboose in Damascus at 9:20. If you prefer to meet at the trail head, or the parking on 421, please note that as well. Bring lunch, water, and poles are suggested.
